EDMONTON – When the Grey Cup is handed out Sunday night at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa, you can bet there will be plenty of Canada West fingerprints on the iconic trophy by the end of the night.

Starting with Canadian Football League commissioner Randy Ambrosie, there will be no shortage of former Canada West football players who will get their hands on the Grey Cup when it is presented for the 105th time, as the Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts clash in the nation's capital.

Ambrosie, who is in his first season as CFL commissioner, spent four years playing at the University of Manitoba (1981-1984) and was a two-time conference all-star on the offensive line before being taken second overall by the Stampeders in the 1985 CFL Draft. The Winnipeg native went on to play nine seasons in the CFL, splitting time between the Stamps, Argos, and Edmonton Eskimos.

In Edmonton, Ambrosie was part of the team's Grey Cup win in 1993, and retired from professional football after the victory.

Sunday, he will get the honour of presenting his first Grey Cup as commissioner, passing the torch to another crop of Canada West football alums.

A total of 16 CW products are members of either the Stampeders or Argonauts, with 11 of those former conference standouts on the team's active rosters. Leading the way in terms of CW alums involved in the game are the Calgary Dinos, who have eight products on either the Stamps or Argos.

Among the former Dinos searching for their first Grey Cup ring is 2017 East Division All-Star Sean McEwen, who in just his second season with the Argos is the East's nominee for the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award.

All six of the conference's teams will be on display Sunday either on the field or sidelines, as the Dinos are joined by the Saskatchewan Huskies, Manitoba Bisons, Alberta Golden Bears, and UBC Thunderbirds with player representation.

Along with the 16 players from CW, former Golden Bear Mark Kilam and ex-Regina Ram Marc Mueller will represent the conference as coaches.

Kilam is in his 13th season with the Stamps and eighth season in his current role as special teams coordinator. Kilam played linebacker at Alberta from 1997-2001 before joining the coaching ranks. Mueller is in his fourth season with the Stampeders and third as running backs coach after spending six seasons at quarterback for the Rams between 2007 and 2012.
