CALGARY – After an incredible season, University of Calgary Dinos quarterback Andrew Buckley is getting some face time in North America's leading sports publication.
Buckley appears in the Dec. 15 issue of Sports Illustrated in the 'Faces in the Crowd' after his dream season, where he led the most potent offence in CIS football. The fourth-year Kinesiology student won the Russ Jackson Award for the second straight season, then added the most prestigious honour in CIS football as the fourth winner of the Hec Crighton Trophy in the University of Calgary's history.
The SI report:
Buckley, a senior quarterback at the University of Calgary, became the first player to win the Hec Crighton Trophy – Canada's Heisman Trophy equivalent – and the Russ Jackson Award, for academics and citizenship, in the same year. His 10.6 yards per carry topped all QBs, and the Dinos led the nation in points (419), TDs (51), and total offence (5,082 yards). (http://www.si.com/more-sports/2014/12/16/faces-in-the-crowd)
Buckley appears on page 46 of the Dec. 15 'Sportsman of the Year' edition, available on newsstands across North America.
The graduate of Calgary's Rundle College is the ninth Dinos athlete in history to be featured in the pages of Sports Illustrated and the first since Jessica Zelinka in May, 2007.
