EDMONTON – University of Calgary Dinos Mercer Timmis (offence), Doctor Cassama (defence) and Rashaun Simonise (special teams) are Canada West football Players of the Week.

Canada West Player of the Year and Hec Crighton Nominee Mercer Timmis showed why he reigned supreme on offence this season when he helped the University of Calgary Dinos earn a spot at the Vanier Cup when they defeated Western 44-3 on Saturday at the Centaur Mitchell Bowl.

In the game, Timmis picked up 139 yards on 16 carries for yet another 100 yard game, his tenth of the season. He also ran in a 41-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to put the nail in the coffin for the Dinos win.

Calgary will now head east to Quebec City where they will take on football giants, and Vanier Cup hosts, the Laval Rouge et Or. Kickoff for the 49th CIS football final is set for 11 a.m. MST, live on Sportsnet, Sportsnet 360 and Radio-Canada.

CIS Player of the Week, third-year student-athlete and 2013 Canada West Defensive Player of the Year Doctor Cassama kept the Western Mustangs in line on Saturday when the Calgary Dinos held the visiting OUA champions to just one field goal in their 44-3 Centaur Mitchell Bowl win.

Cassama's major impact on the game came in the fourth when he grabbed a 71-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. He also picked up six tackles including three solo and added a broken up pass.

Canada West Rookie of the Year, Rashaun Simonise, was a key factor in Calgary's defeat of the #1 Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon when they advanced to the Vanier Cup and won the Centaur Mitchell Bowl.

Just ten minutes into the game, Simonise returned a punt in snowy, windy conditions for an 80-yard touchdown to put the Dinos up 17-0. The rookie went on to gain 171 all-purpose yards as Calgary's top punt and kick returner.
