EDMONTON – University of Calgary Dinos Mercer Timmis (offence), Cyril Iwanegbe (defence) and Johnny Mark (special teams) are Canada West football Players of the Week.

Mercer was further rewarded with CIS Player of the Week on Wednesday.

All made a significant contribution as the Dinos won a record sixth consecutive Hardy Cup championship and advanced to host next Saturday's Mitchell Bowl vs. Western.

*OFFENCE: #20 Mercer Timmis
Home: Burlington, ON
Height: 6-1
Year: 2nd
Academic: Haskayne School of Business

Two days after being named the 2013 Canada West nominee for the Hec Crighton trophy, sophomore running back and CIS offensive Player of the Week Mercer Timmis left no doubt it was the right selection.

In Saturday's 77th Hardy Cup, Timmis posted a career-best day, a school and conference playoff record, the fourth-best single game in school history, and the best single-game rushing performance in the nation since 2009 with his 28-carry, 279-yard outing against the Manitoba Bisons. Timmis added two more touchdowns, bringing his season total to 23 in 10 games, as the Dinos captured their sixth straight conference title with a 43-28 win over the Bisons.

Timmis averaged 10 yards per carry on the day, with his touchdowns coming from 27 yards on the Dinos' opening drive as well as a 33-yard romp in the final quarter to put the game out of reach for the Bisons. Through 10 games of conference and playoff action this season, Timmis has run for exactly 1,600 yards and scored 22 majors along the ground, adding a further 144 yards and a touchdown through the air.

The Haskayne School of Business student and his teammates now get set to welcome the top-ranked Western Mustangs to Calgary for the 2013 CIS Mitchell Bowl next Saturday, with a trip to the Vanier Cup on the line.

DEFENCE: #7 Cyril Iwanegbe, Calgary
Home: Brooks, AB
Height: 5-9
Year: 2nd
Academic: Arts

Cyril Iwanegbe made up for lost time Saturday, leading the Dinos' defensive effort as Calgary captured a sixth consecutive Canada West title with a 43-28 win over the Manitoba Bisons.

Iwanegbe, who sat out the Dinos' conference semi-final game against UBC, returned to the lineup and picked up eight solo tackles along with a helper as the Dinos held the Bisons to just 421 yards of total offence. The conference all-star at halfback is second only to Doctor Cassama in total tackles on the season.

He and the rest of the Calgary defence will have their work cut out for them next week as they host the explosive offence of the top-ranked Western Mustangs in the CIS Mitchell Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 16. The winner will advance to the Vanier Cup.

SPECIAL TEAMS: #33 Johnny Mark, Calgary
Home: Peterborough, ON
Height: 6-0
Year: 3rd
Academic: Science

Johnny Mark continues to be Mr. Consistent for the University of Calgary Dinos, who captured their sixth consecutive Canada West championship Saturday with a 43-28 win over the Manitoba Bisons.

Mark averaged 40.8 yards on nine punts on the afternoon, but it was a pair of long field goals on the day that stood out. On the final play of the second quarter, Mark booted through a 43-yarder that had plenty of leg to spare, then added a 37-yard splitting of the uprights late in the third. On the season, Mark – who was named the conference all-star kicker and is a two-time All-Canadian at the position – is 21-23 in field goal tries – a 90 per cent efficiency.

A sciences student, Mark and his teammates now get set for the Mitchell Bowl as they host the No. 1-ranked Western Mustangs next Saturday, Nov. 16 at McMahon Stadium.

Next Players of the Week: Monday, November 18
