2012 Canada West football Shaw TV schedule

EDMONTON – Canada West Athletics is proud to announce the conference’s 2012 weekly football television broadcast schedule.

Eight live games highlight the regular season schedule will be broadcast on Shaw TV, along with both Hardy Cup semifinals also on the slate.

Each of the conference’s six teams will get the chance to show their talents before a live Shaw TV audience, with the Saskatchewan Huskies and UBC Thunderbirds each making four appearances. The Regina Rams and Calgary Dinos are featured in three contests, while Manitoba and Alberta are on the schedule once each.

The league’s two semifinal games will also be shown as teams try to qualify for the 76th annual Hardy Cup on November 13 and, ultimately, a berth at the 48th Vanier Cup championship in Toronto.

On Saturday, September 1st the four-time defending Canada West champion Calgary Dinos host the Regina Rams in a big early-season match-up. The Rams are eager to bounce back after a season-long injury sidelined starting quarterback Marc Mueller in 2011.

In a short, eight-game season every game can have big playoff implications whether gunning for first place or hoping to squeeze into the top four. The season’s second Shaw TV event features the UBC Thunderbirds in Regina to face the Rams on Friday, September 7th. The T-Birds could have fifth-year eligible QB and 2011 Hec Crighton Award winner Billy Greene behind centre for another season.

The Huskies-Thunderbirds date on the afternoon of September 15th is another match-up of top stars, with head coach Brian Towriss always fielding a strong roster and perennial title contender.

A Rams-Huskies provincial rival (Sept. 21) and always-entertaining Huskies-Dinos game concludes the first half of the television schedule heading into a bye week for all teams.

The final three conference season games include Calgary at Alberta (Oct. 12), UBC at Manitoba (Oct. 20) and UBC at Saskatchewan (Oct. 26). Exact teams and times for the November 2-3 Hardy Cup playoff semifinals will be determined at the conclusion of the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27.
