June 20th Update: Mueller has been released by Edmonton

EDMONTON - After putting up stellar numbers with the Regina Rams of Canada West (CWUAA), quarterback Marc Mueller was not sure he would have a real shot at the pros. But on May 9th, the Edmonton Eskimos came calling.

On Friday night, before a live TSN audience, Mueller made his Canadian Football League debut and came up perfect. With no incumbent to back up veteran QB Ricky Ray, Mueller has as good a shot as any at  being on the sideline and maybe getting a good number of rookie season snaps this season.

Mueller was 3-3 passing for 45 yards during a 23-22 home loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders that came down to a last-second, long-distance field goal attempt that missed.

In 2010, Mueller set team records for the Rams and was among the league's elite offensive stars with numbers that rival the conference's greatest single-seaosn numbers in recent memory. His combined 2009 & 2010 numbers show over 350 completions for more than 4,700 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Redcliff, Alberta's Nathan Coehoorn, taken fifth overall by the Eskimos from the Calgary Dinos, managed one reception for 10 yards, while Jordan Sisco, who tried his luck in the NFL last season, snagged one catch for seven yards for Saskatchewan. LB Cory Huclack (Manitoba Bisons) made a tackle for the victorious Roughriders and another former Canada West star receiver, 10-year CFLer Jason Claremont, is still going strong, hauling in a pair of passes for 13 yards. Along the offensive line, Gene Makowsky continues to be the longest-serving Canada West grad as the 17-year veteran put in a good performance at guard.

On Saturday...

Argonauts second-year kicker Grant Shaw averaged 43.8 yards on four punts, with a long of 53, was successful on his only field goal attempt and made two extra points during a 31-12 win over the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Shaw is battling Noel Prefotntaine for starter status. Saskatchewan Huskies receiver Rory Kohlert caught two passes for 15 yards for the Ticats, while nine-year veteran safety Wes Lysack, once of the Manitoba Bisons, made four tackles for the home side. Former Simon Fraser Clan receiver Spencer Watt had a solid performance as he begins his second season with the Argo, making four receptions for 59 yards and a long of 31.
