2007 Canada West Football All-Stars Announced

EDMONTON - Canada West is proud to announce the 2007 conference football all-stars, as selected by coaches from each of the seven varsity teams.
The team is made up of 13 players each on offence and defence, along with three positions on special teams. Leading the way was Alberta, which finished just 2-6 on the year, but managed to grab seven spots, including freshman Hugh O’Neill, who was chosen at both punter and placekicker. Six members of the Regina Rams made the list for 2007, while five from the undefeated Manitoba Bisons were selected. Rounding out the selections by team were Calgary, with four, UBC and Saskatchewan at three and Simon Fraser with one. Four players - Canada West Player of the Year Teale Orban from Regina, Calgary running back Anthony Woodson, Mantioba interior lineman Simon Patrick and O’Neill at punter - were all chosen unanimously.
Among this year’s selections, Orban, Patrick, Rams linebacker Steve Wilson and Huskies safety Dylan Barker all made the CIS all-Canadian team in 2006, while six others - SFU wide receiver Aaron Hargreaves, tackle Simeon Rottier and linebacker Dan Bass from Alberta, guard Hubert Buydens and Barker, both of Saskatchewan, along with return specialist Derek Townsend, have made the all-star grade for a second straight year. Patrick and Wilson have actually made the all-Canadian team the last two years, while Townsend has now been on the all-conference team three years running.
