2017-18 CW championship sport dates unveiled

  • The conference cross country champions will be crowned November 11 as part of the U SPORTS national meet in Victoria
  • Canada West’s top swimmers hit the pool for conference gold November 24 to 26 in Victoria

EDMONTON – The final pieces of the 2017-18 Canada West schedule were unveiled Thursday, as the conference’s championship sport schedules were released. 

Both cross country and swimming will crown conference champions in the fall, as the University of Victoria gets set to host cross country (Nov. 11), as well as swimming (Nov. 24 to 26). 

The CW cross country champions will be determined based on placement at the U SPORTS national meet, which returns to Vancouver Island for the first time since 2007. 

Swimmers from across the conference hit the pool for the three-day conference championships in Victoria just a few weeks after cross country, when the UBC Thunderbirds will take aim at their fifth consecutive men’s title and ninth straight women’s banner. 

Wrestling is the next championship sport on the docket, as the University of Alberta welcomes the top conference competitors Feb. 9 and 10, before track and field wraps up the CW championship sport schedule Feb. 23 and 24 at the University of Manitoba. 

The national championships for both swimming (University of Toronto) and wrestling (Ontario University Athletics host TBD) are both slated for the final weekend of February (23-25), while track and field (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec host TBD) goes March 9-11, 

Fans will be able to watch all the action from the CW championships in swimming, wrestling, and track and field on Canada West TV.

A full list of package options will be available mid-August, when the conference unveils its new streaming platform, as part of the conference’s rebrand. 

All revenue generated by Canada West TV is reinvested by the conference and members to offset costs associated with streaming and improve quality.
